Often I paint demonstration paintings in order to exhibit what I am skilled to paint and it is great entertainment for those who stand by and watch.  This particular evening my daughter agreed to sit for me to my delight.  She is such a poised young lady and is a great subject for portraiture.  Her self-discipline comes in handy as well as she sits so patiently.  She recently got her hair cut into this cute bob and it was fun to capture her new look on canvas.  Painted entirely from life.

This particular painting is what is called a "Sketch" and is used primarily as a prelude to a more formalized portrait painting. By painting a quick sketch from life allows the artist to denote color notes and tones that aren't necessarily available in a photograph.
